The Turkish army are offering rewards for beheaded PKK guerillas.

Chief of the General Staff has said today that the Turkish armed forces have to stay within the law in its war with the PKK. He said, “We cannot go beyond the law in our fight against the PKK”

Why is he saying that now? This is classic pychological war babble. There must be more to it!

Does it have anything to do with the fact that the Kurdish media, yesterday, are reporting stories from villages in Sirnak, where Turkish military intelligence men dressed in civilian clothing and accompanied by Jandarme are organising meetings with the village guard elders. At these meetings they are being offered 10,000 New Turkish Lira for every decapitated head of PKK guerrillas. Please see Ozgur Politika 25th/26th June 2007. (translation/more information anyone?)

“The barbarism demonstrated by soldiers posing for photographs with the decapitated heads of those recently killed is wholly unacceptable to decent-thinking people across the world.”- Pauline Green, leader of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament 1996

These stories take us back to the Nineties when Turkish soldiers would pose, routinely with the cut off heads and bodies of Kurdish fighters as ‘trophies’ and send them home to their loved ones. Sometimes photos would be printed off and given around the villages as a threat to anyone who supports the guerrilla. The photos above (there were 11 in total) were published in The European newspaper in January 1996.

Sometimes the bodies of dead guerrilla would be strung onto the back of land rovers and driven around the villages and towns as a warning. And sometimes live bodies would be dragged around too. The ‘dirty war’ is back.

Anyone reading this posting and is able to publish this information please do. We must not remain silent.
